Tarn-Et-Garonne Holidays
The Tarn-Et-Garonne lies just north and north-west of
the pink city of Toulouse.
A little bit of history about the département.
The département was created in 1808 by Napoleon I. It was formed
out of neighbouring areas (or départements) with more
than half of the territory being taken from the Lot (including the towns
of Montauban and Moissac), over one-third was taken from Haute-Garonne
(including Castelsarrasin), and the rest from the départements
of Lot-et-Garonne, Gers, and Aveyron.
Montauban is the principal town of the Tarn-Et-Garonne
département and its administrative
centre. This delightful town, built mainly of the local red/ pink
brick so common in this region, lies on the Tarn and Tescou rivers.
It is one the oldest bastides in southern France. Its earliest history
can be traced back to 1144.
Situated towards the northwestern
limit of the Midi-Pyrenees region, it makes an ideal holiday
location for exploring some of the most beautiful countryside in southwest
France. You are just a stone's throw from the stunning terrain of the
Tarn, the gorges of the Aveyron, the vineyards of Cahors, Bergerac and
Gaillac with Armagnac country centred around Condom in the Gers
only a short drive away.
This hilly and green area of France
is bathed in warm sunshine for much of the year, with temperatures in
July and August reaching well into the high 30s celsius. Around Mountauban
and Moissac, you will find large orchards famous for their apples, nectarines,
apricots and peaches - grown in abundance thanks to the particular micro-climate
that this region enjoys.
There is so much to do here - and
for the whole family too. So why not make the beautiful Tarn-Et-Garonne
your holiday destination this year and discover some of the most beautiful
countryside that France has to offer. Not to mention the wonderful food,
hospitality and weather!
